What are tankless hot water heaters?
Tankless water heaters heat water directly as it flows through the pipes to provide instant hot water as needed using either an electrical or gas/propane heating element.
Why would you want a tankless water heater?
Tankless hot water heaters are relatively low maintenance, provide instant on demand hot water, they can save you up to 30% on energy bills, they take up considerably less space than a conventional tank water heater and since they do not store water, they only heat water that is needed.
What you need to know before you purchase a Tankless Water Heater:
Most tankless water heaters provide 3.5 GPM of instant hot water. Since they do not physically store water, you can get an unlimited amount of hot water but at a limited volume.
Before you purchase a tankless hot water heater, you need to know the ambient incoming water temperature, the output or desired temperature, how much water (gpm) is needed.
Electric tankless water heaters:
If you want to use an electric tankless water heater, you need to take voltage and amps into consideration.
Find how many volts and amps the tankless water heater you’re interested in needs to operate properly.
If you are unsure you can meet the electrical needs, consult a licensed electrician.
Gas tankless water heaters:
You need to plan ahead for proper ventilation, placement in the house or building.
You need to purchase a category III stainless steel ventilation kit if the tankless water heater you’re interested in does not come with one or does not meet the proper venting qualifications.
